Bug Bookmarks Kids Craft
This bug bookmarks craft is really easy. We are making a ladybug bookmark, a bumblebee, and a caterpillar. You only need a few materials, most of which are probably lying around your house already. Let your kids decide which bug they’ll make!
One of my favorite resources for kids is the local library. I have a friend that’s a librarian - we actually went to art school together (over 10 years ago) and she was the one I shared the most laughs with through those years. Now, she reads books to children at storytime and helps them discover their love or reading. I’m really inspired by her career and how she makes a difference in people’s lives!
We went to one of her storytimes recently, called “Reading With Royalty”. The library was full of kids and parents as we waited. At 10am sharp, out walked my librarian friend and two drag queens in the most amazing outfits. Everyone applauded with great joy. One drag queen was dressed like a pirate. The other was a princess - wearing a crown and the most beautiful royal blue gown.
Together, these three sang songs with the kids and read children’s stories about equality. My librarian friend, describes it best: reading with royalty is a way to normalize different experiences. And the kids absolutely love it!
At the end, the children were able to ask questions. As an adult, you naturally think about questions relating to being a drag queen. But the children, as usual, surprised me with questions like: What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer? What do you like to eat for breakfast? What’s your favorite thing to eat on a Friday night?
I’m always learning something new from the way that children think. They are so open and accepting. And they remind me that life doesn’t have to be as complicated as we often make it out to be as adults.
That brings us to today’s bug bookmarks kids craft! A craft that is inspired my amazing librarian friend.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR BUG BOOKMARKS KIDS CRAFT:
Step One: Paint the popsicle sticks the color you want your bug bookmark to be. Let that dry. Then, paint the bug pattern on top. This might be stripes, polka dots or zig zags depending on what you prefer.
Step Two: Wrap a small piece of pipe cleaner around the end of the popsicle stick. Glue a pom pom on top of that, and add googly eyes with some more glue.
And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed this simple tutorial. The bug bookmark craft using popsicle sticks is really easy and super cheap to make! It’s great for kids of any age - even toddlers. They’ll love learning how to put the bookmark between the pages and closing the book.
Happy creating friends!
