Easter Bunny and Chick Craft made from Egg Carton

I just love Easter crafts. They’re bursting with color and they are the perfect way to welcome in the Spring season! This Easter Bunny and Chick Craft made from an egg carton is no exception! There are so many uses for this idea. It’s a cute idea for your kids to bring treats to their class for school. You can make them as a surprise for Easter morning. Or you can use it as a craft activity over the Easter holiday to make with the family. To make the craft, I designed a free Easter bunny and chick template for the ears, eyes and beak.

DIRECTIONS FOR HOW TO MAKE THE EASTER EGG CARTON BUNNY :

First, download the bunny and chick template from my free resources library. Then print it out and cut out the shapes. If you don’t have the password to the resources library, you can get it by filling out the form at the bottom of this post.

Then, cut out the egg carton scoops. Try to make the scoop even on the top. Using a flat piece from the top of the carton, trace 2 bunny ears (use the template pieces to get the right shape).

Now you will have 3 main parts for the bunny:

  • bunny ears (cut from egg carton)

  • eyes (cut from the template)

  • back ribbon strip - I used the template to trace on to a piece of pink paper.

Now you’re ready to assemble the bunny!

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE BUNNY:

  1. First, paint 2 egg carton scoops and the 2 bunny ears on both sides. Let that dry completely.

  2. Using a hot glue gun, glue the back ribbon strip to the back side of the 2 scoops. This will hold them together.

  3. Glue the bunny ears on each side of the back ribbon strip.

  4. Glue the white pom pom (or cotton ball) on to the back ribbon to make the bunny tail.

  5. Glue the eyes from the template on to the front of the bunny.

  6. Using a fine tipped marker (like a Sharpie), draw the nose and whiskers.

That’s how you make the bunny craft! I created 3 of them, one in green, one teal, and one pink. I used different eyes for each (all found in the template in the free resources library).

DIRECTIONS FOR HOW TO MAKE THE EASTER EGG CARTON Chick :

The process to make the Easter chick is very similar to the bunny. If you didn’t read the instructions for the bunny above, make sure you download the bunny and chick template from my free resources library. Then print it out and cut out the shapes. If you don’t have the password to the resources library, you can get it by filling out the form at the bottom of this post.

You will also need 2 egg carton scoops for the chick craft. Try to make the scoop even on the top while you’re cutting them.

Then, using a flat piece from the top of the carton, trace 2 chick wings and the beak (use the template pieces to get the right shape).

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE CHICK:

  1. First, paint the 2 egg carton scoops yellow, the wings yellow and the beak orange. Let that dry completely.

  2. Using a hot glue gun, glue the back ribbon strip to the back side of the 2 scoops. This will hold them together.

  3. Make a small bend on the wings (shown in image #3 above) and glue the wings on each side of egg scoop.

  4. Fold the beak in half and glue in the center of the top scoop for the beak.

  5. Glue the eyes from the template and on to the front.

And that’s how you make the Easter bunny and chick craft from egg cartons! Now all you need to do is fill each one with candy. I used jelly beans, but you could also use the candy covered chocolate Easter eggs. If you don’t want to add candy, something small like stickers would also be great inside!

I hope you enjoyed this Easter craft!

If you make one of these, please do email me and tell me — I love seeing your creations! And, as always, let me know if you have any questions.
