Silly Pancake Faces

how to make silly pancake faces

These silly pancake faces are kind of awesome and kind of hilarious. They make me laugh when I look at them, mostly because I’m not the world’s best with drawing faces on pancakes. But when my daughter and I put them together last Saturday morning, she said, “mom those are so cool!”

Now, my daughter is three years old. And I don’t know if I’ve ever heard her use the word “cool” before. Maybe she’s three going on thirteen? Is that how it works? Either way, not gonna lie, I instantly felt like a “cool mom” and decided to go with it.

So next time you’re making pancakes with the kiddos, give these silly face pancakes a try. Below I’m going to share how I made them. It was really easy. It took about 3 minutes, and the ingredients I used were healthy and delicious.

The first step is to make the pancakes! I used this pancake recipe to make mine. I’m sure you already have a pancake recipe you love so go with that one (or you can try the one I used).

To make the silly pancake faces you only need a three ingredients: greek yogurt, berries, and sunbutter (or nut butter).

  1. First, place a dollop of greek yogurt on the top part of the pancake. This will hold the fruit onto the pancake. You could also use non-dairy yogurt, cream cheese or a nut butter / seed butter for this step. I personally love greek yogurt on my pancakes so this was an easy choice for me.

  2. Next, wash and slice your berries and add them on top of the yogurt in any way that you like to make the fruit hats.

  3. The last step is to make the faces. To do this, I placed a bit of sunbutter in a small plastic bag. Then I cut a very tiny bit of the corner off plastic off using scissors. Next, I squeezed a bit of the sunbutter on to the pancake and made the faces as best as I could. Like I said earlier, I’m definitely not a professional icing expert - and clearly I could use a little more practice.

My daughter really enjoyed using the sunbutter icing strategy to make faces on the leftover pancakes. We had fun playing around with that for a while, and then we happily gobbled the all up.
