Becoming a mother is full of its ups and downs. There are so many magical moments (and not so magical ones). But I gotta say that creating special birthday parties for my daughter has quickly become one of my favorite parts of motherhood.
This past year, for her third birthday, my daughter was requesting a unicorn birthday cake, with a dinosaur themed party. We didn't really get there - in fact, here's the actual cake I made for her - but I discovered that simple homemade party decorations like these mini party hat cupcake toppers are sooo fun for me to make!
When I was little, I loved crafting. I was always making something. And as I got older this stopped for some reason - maybe because I thought it wasn't cool or something. But now that my daughter is here, it's like I'm reliving this crafting passion all over again.
But, I'm also a mom, and life is hectic. So these fun creative projects have to be simple and easy. I'm sure you can relate to the lack of time.
So that brings us to today's craft. The Mini Party Hat Cupcake Toppers. How cute are these??
Have you ever made a dozen cupcakes using those cute patterned cupcake liners only to have a random stack of them left over that you end up shoving in a drawer? They're so cute that it's hard to throw them away! Well, I'm totally guilty of this. But luckily these cupcake liners are perfect for this tiny party hat DIY project.
The best part is that you might already have most of the supplies in your home. You only need three things for these mini party hats.
Step One: Take your paper cupcake liner and fold it in half.
Step Two: Fold the liner in half again. Then, run a small amount of glue along the edge and press together to create a cone shape.
Step Three: Add a dab of glue on to a small pom pom and place it on top.
And voila! I told you it was super easy! You'll want to let these cute mini party hats dry for at least 20-30 minutes before using.
Did I mention these also make great mini party hats for animals? And how cute would these look as party hats for dinosaurs!?
You can also use these animals with party hats as cake toppers. Meaning, the animals sit directly on top of the cake. The options are endless really.
My daughter was absolutely delighted by this fun DIY project. She loved helping me put together each of the mini hats and enjoyed choosing which color of pom pom would go on each hat.
So if you're looking for a fun, bright, colorful easy craft project for your next birthday party, these tiny party hat cupcake toppers are sure to be a hit!
